I would like to continue my academic studies and pursue a...... My interest is on........i have focused my study and research during the past number of years on .......... Since ........ I have been a Master’s student in the............. The program focuses on educational technologies with a bias evident towards formal K-12 education and best practices employing emergent technologies, inclusive mostly of......... In my application to this program, I declared my interests in design education and informal science learning. As I began the........ my coursework, instead focused more and built upon my undergraduate studies in ........... Through an internship with the new.......... initiative, I formed a working relationship with ......., the Executive Director of the ........... and a more certain appreciation for ........ In addition, I gradually became more cognizant of the processes and spaces and, most interesting to me, the tools that are commonly used. Specifically, working in the classroom.........and within the loft community of........., I have become aware of and very interested in the affordances that this “stuff” provides, i.e., the benefits and failings of the room, furnishings, people, technology, tools, etc. around us.
The appropriate role and use of technology is something that has recently arisen in a number of my classes (classes as well as classes in science, technology and society, art, and education) and it fascinates me. The idea that only cutting edge, computer technology is the best, fastest, and flashiest way to go may not be entirely true. Taking into account people and pen and paper and the like can result in a debate between........... The real question for me is how to link.........and how to most seamlessly move between the different...........
I have focused my project and internship responsibilities around the challenges of space and time in the face of such technology. My project over the next two quarters will focus on............. My initial contention is that it is difficult to share and document information during collaboration using existing physical educational technologies. I have found that using the most appropriate technology and transitioning amongst........... I can picture a set of solutions that improve upon the current state of traditional educational technologies and involve an appropriate layer of technology. An example might be a Huddleboard monitor, taking common dry erase panels and making a rear-projection monitor of one that can be easily annotated with marker. Another example is a logbook printer, a device that scans and prints drawings transferring from one notebook to another.
By relying on an iterative process, it is simple to produce a consistent level of innovations. The Product Design program can be viewed as a Venn diagram where the intersection of the three arenas of business, art and engineering come together. I also firmly believe that there exist close relationships among innovation, technology and inspiration. I want to share those relationships with others in order to further drive technological creativity and engineering. Having studied engineering and education, I look forward to continuing to apply both engineering and education concepts to maximize efforts at collaboration in real world contexts. The Ph.D Program will be a key and vital component of learning how to fuse the ..............into the real world environment.
One example of my past experience with.................. I had the opportunity to integrate the disparate product lines of both companies and travel internationally to meet with new colleagues and sales people. I learned a considerable amount about what it takes to fuse different technologies and marketing messages into a single voice and the difficulties with synthesizing different tool sets and cultures. These lessons have helped me to be able add perspective to the general question of the use of ............ beyond just the academic bubble.
I know that I will be successful as I find new ways to apply my passions and visions to an educational venture. The skills and knowledge that I can foster and develop in the Ph.D Program will be strong and effective assets that will help me reach my personal goals.

I am a man of many hats. Based on my undergraduate training at.......... I am an engineer and............ My work experience defines me as a marketer or educator. I have worked in engineering, technological, and educational organizations and am thrilled by the opportunity to draw these disparate areas together. As a product of inter-disciplinary programs I had a wide breadth of knowledge and expertise in a couple of specific areas.
I am a generalist, able to pick things up quickly and view the bigger picture. I love learning and accumulating and sharing information. I want to do what I enjoy, what I am good at and what I am passionate about. For me, this all comes together in the world of design and I want and need to explore it more. At my age, with my outlook and experiences, joining the .........Ph.D program will be the next step to fulfilling a dream. I hope to fulfill my desires, and be proud of myself as I pursue a career as a professor in academia and an expert in design thinking and design tools.
